My name is Nick Adams, and I was not supposed to be where I am. I was not born in America. English was not my first language growing up. When I was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer, many thought that I would never live into adulthood at all.
No life is ever free from obstacles, and the pursuit of dreams is perennially accompanied by many a sojourn into the heart of darkness.
How, then, did a boy born abroad, who was not even supposed to survive cancer, who could not speak the world’s foremost language, end up receiving a nomination by the best President in US history to represent the best nation in the world before the friendly and wonderful people of Malaysia?
There is no single answer, but each constituent element of my journey helps to form a cohesive answer that may, in some way, inspire others, whether here in the United States or elsewhere.
First and foremost, my faith in God has guided me throughout a life that has been lived on the many roads less travelled. In the moments when we feel like giving up, when we feel dejected, when we feel misunderstood, when we feel useless to ourselves and others, we feel a hand on our shoulder even in cold, empty rooms.
This hand on our shoulder is the hand of God. If we believe in Him and pray to Him, He will give us the ability to find our dreams on the other side of life’s nightmares.
Next, I had self-belief. If you know what you want, you will find a way to get it. All you need is self-belief. Does this make you perfect? No, it does not, but it gives you the inner strength required to pursue constant improvement in mind, body, and soul.
If you want to achieve greatness, you must believe that this greatness lies within you. If you sincerely believe this, you will summon and embolden this inner strength, and you will get to the places in life that you want to go. This lies in each and every one of us.
Finally, I have been blessed, not because I was born into fortune, fame, or frivolity, but because of my mother and father. My father blessed me with the discipline required to learn about life and the courage to then go out and live it.
While he is no longer with us, I remain blessed by the memory eternal that will always guide me until my final days.
My mother continues to be the only passenger who has been with me on every step of this amazing journey. She has supported me like a rock, has caught me when I fell, and has walked beside me through the times of smiles and the times of solemnity.
America is great because our Constitution prohibits government from coming between us and the Natural Law bestowed upon us by God. Our freedom is more than a right—it is a gift, and fortune favors those who do not squander gifts, whether the small or the sublime.
Much of my adult life has been a story of giving back to the United States, the country I loved, the country that welcomed me first as a visitor, then as an entrepreneur, then as a citizen, and today, as an Ambassador.
First, I formed the Foundation for American Liberty (FLAG) in order to give young American children a chance to reach the pinnacle of success through a patriotic civics education.
Then, I founded 1A Warriors, a non-profit organization dedicated to securing, protecting, and preserving our beautiful and exceptional First Amendment.
Throughout my adult life, I have written books detailing my unending love affair with the United States, her Constitution, Flag, people, and history.
Now, the greatest President of all time, Donald J. Trump has bestowed upon me the honor of a lifetime in nominating me to represent the United States of America as the next Ambassador to Malaysia.
From the child reading about Presidential elections, Senate confirmations of Presidential nominees, and the fortunate few who get to extol the virtues of Americanism to our friends overseas, to the man nominated by the President to represent the United States overseas, following my confirmation before esteemed Senators.
Why do I write all of this now? Because somewhere there is a young man without hope. Somewhere there is a kid who feels weak while others grow strong. Somewhere there is someone told to sit down and shut up, rather than dream big and work hard.
I am here to tell you that hope is always there if you keep your faith.
I am here to tell you that your internal strength is the greatest force for good that God has endowed you with.
I am here to tell you that you should always dream big and always work hard to make your dreams come true.
Thank you, President Trump, for this great honor. I promise that I will never let you down. You are not only my favorite President, you are my favorite person. Your loyalty, honesty, intelligence, and patriotism set a tremendous example of American excellence for our fellow citizens and for friends of America throughout the world.
God bless you, Mr. President.
God bless the United States of America, the place where big, beautiful American dreams come true!
Nick, Thank you for casting your net to come to America. You came to Bloomington, Illinois and entertained us with your love of our country. Your tenacity is an inspiration. You deserve to be “ Mr. Ambassador.” Congratulations. Jeanie and George Wendt
